HENDERSON, Nev. (September 21, 2020) – It's a unique season for the College of Southern Nevada Athletic Department this fall.
Normally, fall is a time where the schedule is bustling with practices, games, team meetings, bus trips and all of the things that go along with running a competitive junior college athletic department. Instead, CSN is quiet this fall as all of the NJCAA awaits a jam-packed spring season that will feature all of its sports.
While there is a wait for competition, CSN's programs haven't quit finding other ways to bond and serve the Las Vegas Valley; for instance, Southern Nevada's softball team recently participated in a service event with local food bank Three Square. The Lady Coyotes served in a September 11 event, helping with food distribution for those who are facing food scarcity due to COVID-19.

Ashley Johnston said giving back to the community is an essential goal for her program.
"We put high value on community service," she said. "We believe that by giving back it allows us to stay humble and connects CSN with the community. It also provides us with a sense of purpose and brings joy to each of us."
The Lady Coyotes were made aware of the opportunity with Three Square due to a long-running relationship between the program and the local organization. CSN has participated with Three Square in the past for various events, usually providing service that also has an added benefit of helping the team bond appropriately.
Besides the reward of helping bond teammates in service, Johnston said the benefit of seeing local families benefit from Three Square's services is validating.
"All of the people receiving the food were very grateful and it was nice to hear so many 'thank you's'," she said. "It was humbling to see how many people showed up to receive food."
