Volleyball Community Service Fall 2020

CSN Volleyball serves several Las Vegas Valley causes in recent weeks

HENDERSON, Nev. (September 29, 2020) – There will be many new faces when the College of Southern Nevada volleyball program hits the court in the Spring of 2021.

Fortunately, the Lady Coyotes will already have strong team chemistry thanks to being veterans of multiple service initiatives over the past few weeks. Recently, CSN has been involved in serving the 'Delivering with Dignity Food Heroes' food service program, along with helping with the Three Square service program. The Lady Coyotes have also served with the Vegas Aces Volleyball Club, helping young players in the game.

Southern Nevada coach Jessica Diehl said serving the Las Vegas Valley has been a fun initiative for her program to be part of.

"It was very refreshing to be a part of several different acts of service," she said. "'Delivering with Dignity' really opened up our players' eyes as they delivered food to those who are struggling with meals due to COVID-19. Having food security is a luxury and we sometimes can take it for granted."

The Lady Coyotes were strongly involved in serving local families in need through several of the initiatives, delivering food to homes and to several local schools. Additionally, CSN taught volleyball skills to local middle school students.

Diehl noted the unity her program felt from participation in the service opportunities.

"I believe our team became more united, even though we were spilt up, as we still were working together to meet an overall goal," she said. "'Delivering with Dignity' required two people to a car to drop off the meal. We strategically paired freshmen up with sophomores to allow everyone to get to know each other a little better."

While the benefit of improving team unity and growing interpersonal relationships is certainly an added benefit, CSN Volleyball's community service is another notch in a growing belt of relationships that CSN Athletics has established with local non-profit organizations.

Diehl said community service will always be a core fundamental of her program.

"It is definitely a high value in our program," she stated. "The players we recruit have put community service as a high priority as they are the ones who set it up. Our program's goal is to consistently be serving the Southern Nevada community to showcase our young women as role models who set a good example to younger ages."
