HENDERSON, Nev. (October 13, 2021) – The College of Southern Nevada Athletic Department will have a light week of competition, featuring all of CSN's programs playing on the road.
Southern Nevada's Men's-and-Women's Soccer programs will play on the road at Community Christian in California, with CSN Volleyball traveling to play at USU Eastern and Southern Nevada. This week will mark one of the few weeks of the academic year where CSN Athletics will not host a home event.

Cross Country: After a high finish last week, the CSN Cross Country programs will have an off-week, in preparation for their regular-season finale last week.
Southern Nevada has trained vigorously over the past months, rapidly rising up the ranks of programs in the NJCAA. While this week will feature strong training, CSN coach
Bryan Astudillo said his team is focused on also fueling for future success.
"I am lucky that my athletes are very knowledgeable when it comes to nutrition during the season, and they stay strict on it," he said. "We do talk about hydration every day, and talk about the importance of drinking water. Also, my athletes know it is important to take it easy on rest days and not do too much on days that are meant for recovery. We have two-to-three days of hard running a week, so they know the significance of the other days and what recovery actually does to their bodies."
Men's Soccer: CSN will start the week with momentum, coming off a strong home win over in-state rival Truckee Meadows.
The Coyotes will take to the road this week for a match at Community Christian College on Thursday, opening the second-to-last weekend of regular-season competition on the road. Southern Nevada will play the remainder of its contests on the road, opening with a CCC team it beat 7-1 in their first matchup.
CSN coach
Yancey Tisdale said the Coyotes won't underestimate the challenge of Community Christian, even after a strong victory the first go-around.
"We were able to have a lot of success against them in our first contest, but we understand we need to show up and play at a high level to get a result," he said.
Playing on the road can wear a team down, especially at this point of the season where CSN is also preparing for a potential playoff push. When it comes to maintaining performance, Tisdale said nutrition and hydration are critical for success.
"This discussion takes place quite a bit in our strength and conditioning session," he said. "We rest as much as possible while trying to stay focused and conditioned to compete. As for nutrition, we can only hope players are eating well and doing the things to perform at a top level."
Women's Soccer: CSN will hope to regain valuable momentum in a road match this week, preparing for next week's season finales.
Southern Nevada will play a match at Community Christian, preparing for next week's finales at nationally-ranked Salt Lake and USU Eastern. CSN is coming off a disappointing 1-0 loss to in-state rival Truckee Meadows last week.
Lady Coyotes coach
Jocelyn Roach said her team is preparing to refocus in preparation for the stretch-run of the season.
"Although we have beaten CCC at home already, we go into this game knowing after last week we must win," she noted. "So now we treat this game how we would a Snow or SLCC. We cannot take this game lightly."
Part of a team's preparation is film study and physical conditioning; the other side is fueling for performance. Roach noted how CSN focuses extensively on preparing student-athletes for success.
"We had a huge discussion with our players at the beginning of last week as we had some minor injuries start to appear," she said. "Obviously we want the players taking care of themselves when they are not practicing or playing, we talk about water intake and eating the right things, and we balance between playing, working, and classroom."
Volleyball: CSN Volleyball will take to the road this week for a pair of road matches, hoping to break a recent slide in Scenic West Athletic Conference play.
The Lady Coyotes are traveling to play at USU Eastern and Colorado Northwestern, looking to avenge a home loss to USU Eastern while sweeping the CNCC season series. Southern Nevada is on a four-game losing streak in preparations for the road trip, with the final three matches of the season coming at home inside the CSN Sports Center.
Lady Coyotes coach
Jessica Diehl said her team is focused on improving fundamentals in preparation for the road trip.
"This week we are focused on shifting back to our first round of conference play as we face USU Eastern and CNCC," she said. "We are doing our best to maintain our mental health. Without mental health and resilience, teams will fall apart."
