The Lady Coyotes hit the road this past weekend for the final time in the 2017 regular season to battle the CNCC Spartans and Snow College Badgers. Despite being winless in conference heading into the weekend, Southern Nevada has continued to compete admirably in one of the premier volleyball conferences in the entire NJCAA.
Friday evening began with CSN seeking revenge for an earlier straight sets match loss to the Spartans in the "Den" just a few weeks ago. The opening set was up for grabs as both teams rallied to gain the advantage and set the tone for the match. Fortunately it was the Lady Coyotes who seized the momentum late and carried it to a (25-23) opening set win. Southern Nevada continued to impose its will on the match in set two, as they controlled the set en route to a (25-16) victory in set two. A back and forth set three saw the Spartans edge out the Coyotes (22-25) and CNCC evened the match in set four with dominant (14-25) win to force a winner-take-all fifth set. Both teams left it all out on the court in Rangely, but unfortunately it was Southern Nevada that ended up on the short end. CNCC kept CSN winless after claiming the fifth and final set (12-15).
Up next for the Lady Coyotes was a road matchup with the nationally ranked Eagles Saturday afternoon in Price, Utah. Despite a 0-1 record versus USU-Eastern this season, CSN did force them into a deciding fifth set the last time these two met. Eastern jumped out early, claiming the matches opening set (14-25). The Lady Coyotes stepped their game up in set two, however the experience and perseverance of the Eagles allowed them to escape the set with a (20-25) victory. Set three saw both teams battle point for point, but it was Eastern that was able to score the points when the needed it most as they took the match in straight sets (14-25, 20-25 and 18-25) to defeat CSN for the second time in 2017.
Fans make your plans to visit the "Den" Thursday evening as we say goodbye to a special group of sophomores and Saturday afternoon for the team's final home match of the regular season versus the Snow College Badgers.
